Company wants you to be able to broaden your skillset: “An Android Developer today can be an iOS Developer tomorrow.”

Intro: SOTI’s vision is all about endless possibilities and that certainly doesn’t come with routine days. Opportunities to learn within a specific role are abundant because of the company's extreme growth, which also drives in-company promotions. Innovation is our way of life, so much so that the status quo goes against the rules and having fun along the way is a requirement. It's not strange for the executive team to make silly videos to send to the global teams or create an improve sketch at the holiday party. Our goal is to become the best technology company in Canada, as we bring the intensity on and off the field.

Advancement Opportunities:

Being a fairly flat organization allows SOTI to expose team members to varying areas within SOTI’s business units. The company has a policy to promote from within and, due to the exponential growth of the company, team members work on a range of different projects, each with unique deliverables and end goals. Having special tiger or SWAT teams not only exposes members to different areas, but it also allows for integration and engagement with people from all over the company, including members from around the globe. SOTI has international opportunities for team members to explore and take advantage of, one benefit of being a global organization. The company also looks at the talent and skill set of the individual, rather than their position or title when looking to fill roles within the company.

Medical benefits:

SOTI employees take full advantage of the no co-pay, full family medical coverage offered by the company. SOTI also offers dental benefits, life insurance, dependent life, accidental death and dismemberment, and long-term disability.

Community service/charitable causes:

SOTI’s support of community service/charitable causes is active and ongoing. We participate in campaigns such as:

Toronto Hospital “Sick Kids”

Fundraising and holiday food drives

SOTI is actively involved in refugee support including organizing volunteer efforts, coordinating drives and employment counseling services. The company also offers alternate education programs such as Quality Assurance school to deposit value into the community.

Measuring satisfaction:

SOTI uses multiple tools to measure team member satisfaction, including surveys, a suggestion box, and open communication sessions. Being a transparent organization, SOTI encourages an ‘open door’ policy in which anyone can swing by a senior member’s office to have a conversation, including the freedom to speak with the CEO at any time.

SOTI is amid a hyper growth state so we’ve taken measures, both short and long term, to ensure the continued success of the company. Plans are actively underway to start a campus like workspace with buildings and green space to allowing for the scalability needed to grow SOTI. As we work towards that vision, we are creative in our current work spaces by bringing together team members in friendly areas that help foster collaboration and creativity. SOTI encourages team members to show off their personality and even has department themed sections. Being a young technology company, there’s a lot of cool gadgets and toys that the teams get to interact with!

Creative meeting places:

Parks, rooftops, airplanes, hotels, conference centers, even an aquarium are just some of the creative spaces we’ve had team meetings or events. No location is off limits when fostering a culture of creative genius.

Perks:

Special perks for SOTI employees are an important part of our corporate culture and we have a dedicated social committee that actively creates fun events for employees and their families. Some insider perks worth mentioning are:

The state-of-the-art fitness room

Onsite shower facilities

Gym discounts provided to all

Fun:

It’s not uncommon to see Sales challenge Marketing to a game of foosball or ping pong in the lunch room, where things can get very competitive!

There is also a fitness room where team members can work out anytime of the day.

SOTI team members also enjoy a dynamic sports culture where there’s an organized activity, such as floor hockey, soccer, basketball or badminton, happening daily.

How corporate vision is communicated:

Due to the constantly changing industry landscape, the SOTI corporate vision is ever evolving to meet market demands. SOTI leadership values transparency and communicates the corporate vision in several ways to satisfy and include all team member’s needs. Primarily, the vision is communicated through quarterly global town hall meetings. These meetings are an opportunity for team members around the world to get informed as well as ask questions via open dialogue sessions. As part of our open communications plan, every Friday we hold a SOTI Unplugged session, which allow employees to interact directly with all levels of executives and truly understand the corporate vision and how it applies to them.

Empowering employees:

SOTI Jolt is a formal program put into place to encourage team members to challenge the status quo at the organization. If there is merit behind the idea, SOTI will allocate resources to implement the change. SOTI encourages employees to speak up and be part of making SOTI even better through programs such as SOTI Unplugged which is actively attended.

Team member recognition is a big deal at SOTI and we feel those being recognized deserve a celebration. We communicate team member recognition at company and department meetings as well as at events such as team building exercises. We offer a variety of different recognition levels from peer-to-peer, department and organization level, regionally as well as across the company in SOTI’s elite MVP club. SOTI’s peer-to-peer recognition program, You Rock recognizes employees for categories such as Spirit, Overachievement, Teamwork and Innovation. Recipients have their pictures posted in the main kitchen area on the You Rock board, display the You Rock post cards on their desk and receive SOTI branded prizes. SOTI’s annual MVP program is the most coveted award at SOTI whereby a nomination process from peers and voting system recognizes the top 2% of the company.

SOTI pushes each team member to explore his or her entrepreneurial streak as ideas and decisions are more than welcome in conversation. In a conversation with the CEO and COO, a team member recommended implementing an ERP system. That team member was then asked to review all the available solutions and perform an evaluation process to determine which solution would benefit SOTI’s long term interests. Once the solutions were reviewed and evaluated, the team member presented the recommendation to the CEO and COO who both agreed the selected system added a significant value and ultimately signed off on the implementation. In the end, the selected solution gave SOTI the needed infrastructure to scale globally which resulted in a multi-million dollar investment.

Ensuring well-being:

SOTI does publish a standard set of 40 work hours per week. However, we believe in the value of a work/life balance. To aide team members and support this lifestyle, SOTI offers flex hours where employees are asked to be available for meetings and conversations between 10:00am and 4:00pm but can flex their schedule accordingly based on their personal commitments. Managers are empowered to work with their team members to develop mutually beneficial scheduling arrangements.

SOTI empowers their team members to make their own schedules in collaboration with their manager to support both their needs as well as the needs of the business. SOTI provides five personal business days per calendar year, regardless of an employee’s official start date. Employees can use these days for personal needs, medical appointments, and errand running without tapping into their vacation time.

SOTI knows without its stellar team at its fittest, it wouldn’t be possible to deliver the quality products and solutions that it does. SOTI offers organized sports activities that occur nearly each week day, including floor hockey, basketball, soccer and badminton. On top of that, gym memberships allow team members to maintain their physical fitness at a time and place convenient for them.

Longevity:

SOTI’s rapid growth over last few years means the overall employee tenure is quite low. SOTI has, however, managed to strike a delicate balance of maintaining tenure of early employees while onboarding many new team members.

Closing company statements: SOTI’s vision is all about endless possibilities and that certainly doesn’t come with routine days. Our goal is to becomes the best technology company in Canada, as we bring the intensity on and off the field.
