Advancement Opportunities:

Nuspire has developed “Nuspire University.” This is unique because it outlines a clear path from entry-level to senior technical positons. The program consists of instructor led training, course-based training, industry training, and employee mentor programs. While most companies have training programs, Nuspire University provides the information, training, and mentorship to allow new employees to build a long-term career. This is provided free of charge, and conducted while the employee is working their normal work hours. About one-half of Nuspire’s management team began in entry level positions at the company, so the leadership team builds ways for the employee to advance within the organization. This is unique because managers will sit down employees and say “I started in this same position. Here is the path I took. I will help you follow that same course to advance within the company.”

Training opportunities:

Nuspire offers a Mentor program, three months of training for all new employees, and industry training accessible both on and offsite at no cost to the employee.

Medical benefits:

Because the Nuspire Security Operations Center operates 24/7/365, managers can work around employee schedules to accommodate schooling, training, or other special interests.

Fun:

Nuspire breaks twice a month for a Good Time event. Events include board game day, bowling, chili cook-offs, Guitar Hero, asset toss, large Jenga, basketball, Google races – pretty much anything fun and creative to get people up and mingling and able to decompress from their daily duties.

Collaboration tools:

Nuspire’s SDP (Software Development Plan) encourages new ideas and improvements to current technologies. Employees have access to the SDP system and the ability to submit their ideas for approval. These ideas are discussed in manager’s meetings and by executives to be implemented if approved. Nuspire also has an internal proprietary system called Trax. This provides access to SDPs and is where client tickets and resolutions are logged for review. After review, this is where our best processes are found and we like to recognize the people responsible for a quick response, the most accurate, the most helpful, etc. Nuspire acknowledges employees in a monthly company-wide meeting by thanking them and giving these people prizes of their choice. Prizes include extra PTO, lunch with the CEO, a fishing trip on Lake St. Clair, fast cash, Amazon gift cards, etc. Productivity improved with the design and implementation of Trax to have everything accessible and easily tracked. The implementation of the SDPs empowers all employees to think outside the box and challenge the norm to continuously improve Nuspire’s technologies and processes.

How corporate vision is communicated:

Nuspire updates our mission and vision statement throughout the whole year. Both statements are reviewed in our monthly company meetings, and they are posted on our intranet home screen. $100 cash is offered to anyone who memorizes these statements and recites them at monthly meetings.

Empowering employees:

Nuspire has an SDP (Software Development Plan). This is a formal system to encourage any and all employees, no matter how new, to invoke change. If an employee sees some process or technology currently being utilized in the company that they feel could be improved upon, or even better utilized, they are encouraged to submit an SDP through the system to be reviewed immediately. This is how Nuspire has implemented some of our best processes and technologies.

In a new hire’s orientation, they are told about the SDP’s (Software Development Plans) how they work, where to access them, and why we value their opinions no matter how new they are. Nuspire is a busy, growing company, and as such we need to be able to depend on employees to be able to make the necessary decisions to keep the day going and customer service levels the highest they can be.

Team members give extra effort through the sales and support process. Employees are recognized by customers for extra efforts in troubleshooting, customer support, problem resolution, and reporting. Most customers are provided a mechanism for feedback (surveys) where employees have the chance to be recognized for going above and beyond what is expected. Those individuals who do are recognized and rewarded. Specific examples from this month were from an engineer who worked late to remove a security threat from a customer network, special reporting for a corporate customer to help with project planning, and an account manager who worked through the weekend to get information the customer needed for a board meeting.

Teamwork:

Nuspire is a very close-niche culture. Everyone works with everyone, there are no islands. Monthly team events allow employees to meet and connect with co-workers in different departments from their own. A recent company-wide bowling event was held where teams were chosen at random. It proved to be a fun way to connect with peers who employees may not work with on a daily basis.

Ensuring well-being:

Nuspire has many events through the GTC (Good Times Committee), where family members are encouraged to join. The Twilight Gala for charity, bring your kids to work day, an annual Mackinac summer trip, Pistons games where Nuspire employees actually get to play a game on the court – just to name a few. Nuspire always puts family first, if there is an event for employee’s children or a sick family member – those take precedent over work life. Everyone contributes to make sure we are still providing our clients with the best 24-hour monitoring service, while ensuring our employees never miss what is really important in life – family.

Nuspire is a 24/7/365 operation. Employees may work standard business hours, like 8:30 to 5:30 Monday through Friday, or special hours to accommodate customers in different time zones or countries.

Team members have set schedules. Schedules can vary by division, department, or employee, but are generally set in advance. Employees accumulate PTO each month to use to modify their set schedule. Team members are also eligible to earn more PTO as rewards, or from participating in company events.

Nuspire offers awards for every department where the team lead will recognize one person for an outstanding job in front of the entire company. They are thanked and get to choose a prize as a reward. Prizes range from lunch with the CEO, eight hours of PTO, or our “bucket of cash” where employees pull out as much cash as they can in 10 seconds.

Employees work hard and wear many hats in all departments and teams, and that is why Nuspire offers Good Time events twice a month. Team members are offered the opportunity to decompress and have some fun. Nuspire also employs an open-door policy and encourages everyone to come to HR or their managers with any issues. These can be personal issues or work-related, that is what we are here for. The happiness of Nuspire’s employees is of utmost importance and top priority.

Many Nuspire employees work in a Security Operations Center or Network Operations Center. These are large rooms where the company monitors customer networks. Because of this physical environment, employees literally work next to peers and managers. This creates an environment where everyone is approachable. Managers and employees feel they are on the same team – often because they are in the same physical spot in the building.

Diversity:

Nuspire is a pretty diverse organization; we hire on skill set and experience level. Qualified candidates will likely be offered a position.

Currently, Nuspire offers only full-time positions and hire directly, and does not work with contractors.

Longevity:

Nuspire has two team members who began in an intern role and are now in management and director level roles.

Nuspire’s management team has been here for up to 17 years with an average current length of employment of 10 years.

The average engineering length of employment is about three years.

Closing company statements: Having the technical knowledge Nuspire is looking for is hard to find, but when it is found in a potential candidate, the company stresses the opportunity for advancement. Employees will be able to work with some of the most knowledgeable people in the industry and, most importantly, all employees are valued. Nuspire’s staff matters and their success is the company’s number one priority.
